The Tippecanoe County Countywide Bridge Inspection & Inventory project included the routine re-inspection of all Tippecanoe County bridges – 210 bridges in all, performed in accordance with National Bridge Inspection Standards (23 CFR 650C), and; current editions of Recording and Coding Guide for the Structure Inventory and Appraisal of the Nation’s Bridges, The Manual for Bridge Evaluation with interims including the “Final Rule,” and the Indiana Bridge Inspection Manual. Tippecanoe County is in the Top 5 of Indiana Counties for longest average bridge length, and largest average deck area.


This re-inspection and inventory included:

  • 22 Concrete Slab Bridges
  • 5 Concrete Tee Beam Bridges
  • 1 Concrete Frame Bridge (#507, Non-Select Historic)
  • 5 Concrete Arches (#151, Non-Select Historic)
  • 22 Concrete Culverts/7 Metal Culverts
  • 132 Precast Concrete Beams (Channel, Tee, Box, I & Bulb-Tee)
  • 2 Precast Segmented Box Girders
  • 10 Steel Beam/Girder Bridges
  • 4 Timber Slabs

Additionally, specific information forms were produced and provided for 16 bridges that required special inspection (snooper truck/manlift); 15 bridges that required MOT for deck chaining, and; 23 bridges susceptible to debris & logjams. Ten-year bridge replacement projects clearly identified and a color-coded map featuring bridge rehab and repairs included as part of delivery.
